I have 10 works that are slightly smaller than my usual paintings. Not sure what to do with them, they just stayed in my studio unfinished. I had been listening to a Podcast discussing the merits of Pop singles and it got me thinking about how I make my work. So I gave myself the task of treating these paintings as pop singles that were to be released into the charts rather than a gallery. I ended up being quite brutal with these paintings. If something wasn’t quite right I quickly changed it. Usually, this process takes a very long time. I learnt quite a lot from these paintings, thinking about singular images rather than a larger body was very liberating. Each of these paintings has been given a title of a UK no1 from the 80’s and rather than waiting to be part of a show it feels more important that it is out in the world on someone's wall.
